ENTERTAINMENT! ‘An outright lie!’ Ellen DeGeneres slammed ‘diva’ claims as Portia dished on ‘complicated’ wife – Irish Mirror
She’s the jovial chat show host who is friends with all the stars.
But this weekend, Ellen DeGeneres’ former employees and fans shared a slew of unbelievable claims about her supposed ‘diva’ behaviour.
The unexpected outpouring was sparked when comedian Kevin T Porter promised to donate $2 to the Los Angeles foodbank for every story posted to Twitter about the woman he dubbed ‘one of the meanest people alive.’
He said: “Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about!
“She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive. Respond to this with the most insane stories you’ve heard about Ellen being mean & I’ll match every one w/ $2 to @LAFoodbank.”
One claimed Ellen, 62, has a ‘sensitive nose’ and demands her staff take a chewing gum from a bowl outside her office before speaking to her.
Others wrote that her riders feature bizarre and rare items while one waitress alleged that Ellen wrote a letter of complaint about her chipped nail polish.
However, Ellen previously weighed in on gossip about how she treats her staff, branding claims that she is less than kind completely false.
“That bugs me if someone is saying that because it’s an outright lie,” she told the New York Times in 2018.
“The first day I said: ‘The one thing I want is everyone here to be happy and proud of where they work, and if not, don’t work here.’ No one is going to raise their voice or not be grateful. That’s the rule to this day.”
As a result of the reports, Ellen stopped reading press about herself years ago, and explained: “I hear [wife] Portia [de Rossi] and I are divorcing every other week or having a baby or whatever.”
And in the same interview, former Ally McBeal Portia, 47, opened up about the other side of her wife’s personality away from the chat show host.
“She’s just a bit more complicated than she appears on the show,” she said. “There’s more range of emotion.
“I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and stand-up that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity. There are other things she could tackle.”
Ellen is yet to address the claims, but today she posted a video of herself from quarantine building lego in a t-shirt with ‘staff’ written on it.
Many were quick to interpret her choice of clothing as a subtle swipe at the Twitter sage, which saw Kevin donate $600 in total on the back of the posts.
One had claimed: “A) She has a “sensitive nose” so everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower.”
Another wrote: “I was PAing for the Letterman special and her rider was 50 items long and one was specific vegan cauliflower puffs that are rarely sold so i had to drive to 15 different grocery stores to find it and she didn’t even touch them.”

A third posted: “I was her agents exec asst for a year, so many! 1st thing you learn on the desk is if he was on a call w another client You have to beep in & say ‘your kids on the other line, it’s an emergency’ so he could take the call as she could never be called back bc she would fire him lol.”
“She had a PA fired from a commercial for leading her to set the “long” way,” another alleged.
Writing about Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi, another claimed: “I worked @RealFoodDaily, served her & Porsha at brunch. She wrote a letter to the owner & complained about my chipped nail polish (not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand). I had worked till closing the night before & this was next morn, almost got me fired.”
