The Akwa Ibom Police Command has warned against violation of the State Government’s order proscribing cultism.
The Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said the police would reinvigorate the fight against cultism and other violent behaviour to ensure safety and security in the state.
Speaking on Thursday in Uyo through a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Nnudam Fredrick, he stated that the police would intensify the fight against members of cult groups and their sponsors.
He also ordered the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) personnel to infiltrate all cult groups with a view to identifying their members and sponsors for arrest and prosecution.
Edga further warned parents to caution their children to desist from cultism and other violent activities, and charged cultists to publicly denounce cultism in their own interest. He added that violators of the extant Law would face the full wrath of the law.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reinvigorates fight against cultism and other violent behaviours to ensure continued safety and security in Akwa Ibom State and its environs.
“This is based on the recent proscription of Cultism and Other Violent Behaviour under the Cultism and other Violent Behaviour (Prohibition) Order, 2020 by the State Government.
“The Command reassures members of the public that the fight against cultism and other violent crimes will be intensified against members and sponsors of cults, groups and societies existing within and outside tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools,” he stated.
